A single of the most awesome tv shows that truly held me captive for years was the “witchy” show entitled “Charmed”. I mean, who could resist attractive productive women with cool superpowers that range from telekinesis to premonition to getting the power to freeze time? Well I absolutely couldn’t have, even if I definitely wanted to… which, incidentally, I did not. And not only did they have powers, but they also wrote their personal spells! And their spells basically worked! They practiced real witchcraft! How cool was that?! Yes, I know it really is fiction but nonetheless the very concept that humans may be able to actually do these items thrilled the whimsical kid in me. Now for loveandmoneyspells.com who have been metaphorically trapped inside a cave from 1998 to 2006, let me just inform you that this show was about 3 sisters who were not only gorgeous and profitable humans, but were also the world’s most powerful witches…effectively, at least they were in their world. It was a single of these shows that not only had lots of eye candy, but also had clever dialogues and intelligent plots.
The 1st season of this amazingly feminist (in my opinion) show began when I was still in college. I recall I skipped my final class for the day just so I would not miss its very first episode. When I got home, I straight away turned on the television and saw that blond lady lighting these candles with her finger. Yes, with her finger! It reminded me so much of Sandra Bullock in Practical Magic when she lighted an unlighted candle by blowing on it that I grinned like crazy as I stared at the Television screen! And when Alyssa’s character found the quite cool witchy-seeking leather-bound tome they named The Book of Shadows and started chanting the spell that invoked the “power of three”, I shrieked. My father believed I have gone crazy when my sisters turned their scandalized countenances on me. I just looked at them and shrugged.
Well, that very first episode actually piqued my curiosity that I straight away checked out the school library for some books about actual witchcraft. Lo and behold, I essentially discovered an Encyclopedia of Witchcraft, inside a Catholic University’s library, no less! Nevertheless, I wasn’t in a position to take it out simply because, as luck would have it, it was the only current copy. And so I ended up copped up inside that dingy library for days, reading all I can about genuine witchcraft and magic. Well, the book was not ‘The Journey to Trad Witchcraft by Adrian Eglinton’ but it was quite an fascinating read nonetheless. And just after that, I scoured the library for a lot more reading material. These days, I actually couldn’t get enough of witchcraft.
To this day, I nonetheless adore the show. I even bought all the videos so I can watch them more than and more than once again. Obsessive? Possibly. Or perhaps I just can’t give up on the idea of real magic.
